Shakespeare's classic examination of the nature of hatred and prejudice, featuring Equity guest artists and company members Michael Howard in the title role of Antonio, and Harlan Baker in the role of Shylock.

Staged in the company's trademark environmental style, utilizing the unique architecture of One Longfellow Square, the performance space that formerly housed the Center for Cultural Exchange (CCE).

The production also features: Karen Ball, Seth Berner, Cathy Counts, Paul Drinan, Maggie Gish, Paul Haley, Deborah Paley, Joe Quinn, Kerry Rasor, Christopher Reiling, Randall Tuttle, Tess Van Horn, and Sue Yandell.

The Merchant of Venice is best known for the “pound of flesh” that Shylock, the Jewish merchant, tries to extract from Antonio.  The play also addresses the importance of mercy over the needs of justice.

The production marks Naked Shakespeare’s first full-length production after three seasons of staged readings, scene nights and monthly “Sonnet and Soliloquies” performances.  The production was made possible thanks to the generosity of the Davis Family Foundation, the Deering Fund, and the Margaret E. Burnham Charitable Trust.
